THE LATE SHRI CHANDARAMJI – THE FOUNDER OF THE SCHOOL

Whose munificent donation of Rs.3 ½ laks brought the school into existence. The late Shri Chanda Ramji was a sagacious, industrious and generous person of Lohana Community. He was born in Kutch, Kothara. Although an orthodox Hindu, he was an admirer of female education and he had a great desire to educate his wife Sakerbai, but he was taken away by the prime of his life in 1895. He himself earned lakh of rupees and also donated lakhs for welfare works. a result his name is engraved in the hearts of the people. His main charities include The Chanda Ramji Girls’ High School where hundreds of girls are educated till present . The charitable institution was well looked after by his son, the late Shri Laxmidas Chanda Ramji.

The Late Shri Laxmidas Chanda Ramji

Who rendered valuable and devoted service to the School as a Trustee for many years The late Shri Laxmidas Chanda Ramji was born in 1884 A.D. After completing his primary education and secondary education,he joined the business and with his intelligence and foresight he earned a glowing success in his business .He became one of the important businessman of the city. He earned lakhs and used them in charities. To run the charitable institutions and trust founded by forefathers just for the sake of fame is a well-known thing, but the enthusiasm and eagerness for good work and the practical approach placed the late Shri Laxmidas Chanda Ramji at the head of many charitable institutions of Bombay. He was ever ready to improve the working of his fathers’ institution and cared little how much he had to spend. Thus he put before the people example of ideal institutions. His generosity, his love for humanity and his indomitable religious sentiments as well as his sympathy for the suffering humanity were really unique. His secret charities were far more than the public knowns. The late Sheth Laxmidas was unassuming and truth loving by nature. He served the public through various trust and never tried to get into the limelight of publicity. His pragmatism, tact and farsightedness not only made many a trust prosperous but also useful. From 1922, he served the Chanda Ramji Girls’ High School with vigour. He is an example of continuous zeal for service.

At present following in the footsteps of his father Shri Hansraj Lakshmidas serves actively on many trusts. He takes keen and active part from 1952 in the deliberation of the managing committee like his father. The flow of charity from the time of his grandfather still continues unabated. From his many institutions fellow caste people, students and needy get succour and help. He possesses the virtue of humanity ,generosity, love and service for others like his forefathers. Being a practical man he successfully conducts his business. He serves the institution as a trustee.

Shri Nanu Narayan Kothare, sole Surviving Exccutor of the will of late Shri Chanda Ramji

He moved the High Court of Bombay in 1907 for diverting 3.5 lakhs ,a portion of residue of the estate of the late Shri Chanda Ramji for the establishment of Chanda Ramji High School in Bombay, and obtained order on 24th January 1907 from the Honourable Justice Shri Davar. The present institution and its trust are the result of his sagacious insight.
